Getting started

This page takes you from nothing to one task in focus.

  1. Open Lykert in your browser. You land on the sign-in page, also called the login page.
  2. Choose Register under the form to sign up. The page switches to Create a new account.
  3. Enter your First name, Last name (optional), Email and Password.
  4. Choose Create Account.

If Lykert asks you to verify your email, open the message it sent and follow the link. Then choose I’ve verified — refresh. If the message did not arrive, choose Resend verification email.

Next time, enter your email and password and choose Sign In to log in.

Everything in Lykert lives inside an organization. You do not have to create one to start. When you register, Lykert makes a personal organization for you, named after you (for example, “Sam’s workspace”). You are its owner.

A personal organization is for your own work. A company organization is shared: its members see its projects and tasks, and an admin runs it. You cannot create a company organization yourself, and you cannot add other people to your personal one. If your team already uses Lykert, ask them for an invite. Open the invite link, which is titled Join followed by the organization name, and choose Accept to join it. Once you belong to more than one organization, switch between them from the command palette (Switch to followed by the organization name).

Read Core ideas for how organizations work.

A task belongs to a project, so you need a project first.

  1. Open Projects and choose New Project.
  2. Give it a Name and save it.
  3. Go back to Today.

On Today, with nothing in focus you see Pick one thing. Choose Capture a task, then:

  1. Pick the Project.
  2. Type the Task name.
  3. Choose Add.

Lykert creates the task. If nothing is in focus, it becomes your Now task. If something is already in focus, it goes to Next.

You can also pick an existing task: choose Choose from All work. In All work, New task here opens a task form for the item you have selected. The same button reads Cancel new task while the form is open.

On the Now card, choose Start. (If another task is already running, the button reads Switch here.) The card shows how long it has been running. Choose Finish when the task is done, Park to set it aside until later, or Leave to step away and save a note for when you return.

Lykert records the time as you work. You can see it on the Time page.

Tasks reach Lykert in more than one way:

  • On Today, Capture a task adds a task and puts it in focus or in Next.
  • In All work, New task here adds a task to the project you have selected.
  • When work is handed to you by someone else, or sent from a connected tool, a Triage tray appears on Today. You will not see it until something arrives. For each item you can put it in Next, park it, hand it back or dismiss it.

Lykert runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install. See Apps.

  • Read Core ideas. It is short.
  • Start a task and let it run for a while, then open the Time page to see where the time went.
  • If your team already uses Lykert, accept their invite. See Collaboration.
